Has any other heard the voice of God… as you have…?’ Deuteronomy 4:32-40 (NIV)
Have you ever had an argument with a friend and then there is bitter silence? What about the silence of a loved one’s coma or the unending silence of a love one’s death. All can be devastating. You see we need to hear the voices of others-even disappointed or angry voices or we turn inward to ourselves.
The people of Israel saw the amazing works of God and heard the voice of God from Mount Sinai, and they feared (respected) God. No other people had heard such speech; no other people had experienced such a God. Very simply, "there is no other."
But there are other voices that try to distract us from hearing God. The devil tries so many ways to make us doubt, distrust and disobey God. It happened to the Israelites in the dessert and it happens to us today. How easily are we tempted to complain, criticize, and think more of ourselves. We seem to think we deserve more out life.
All we really need is God. He is the one who can take care of all our needs and bless us with more than we could ever imagine, God loves us and he speaks to us through his Word, the bible and through Jesus Christ, the living word. We may be tempted to wait for a more pleasing voice but there is no truer speech. So today let’s hear the voice of God.
Lord speak to us. Helps us to hear your voice so that we may walk in your Power and in your Grace. Help us to notice your presence wherever we are. Father, help us to listen to your word and obey it. In Jesus name Amen.
